I follow a strictly vegan diet and I have spoken to many people who switched to a Vegan diet.  Almost all of them have told me that the immediate benefit they experienced was weight loss.

On discussing more in detail, they also felt healthier and cleaner from the inside. Going plant-based is likely one of the best things you can do for your health. You may already have researched or read that switching to a plant-based diet is healthier for you and that it is better for the environment.

But are you aware of some of the direct benefits you may experience within days of going vegan?

This will hopefully leave you inspired as it has changed the lives of so many.

1. YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT! CHOOSE WISELY.

You are what you eat! And your internal organs will thank you for this.  For those who consume a lot of milk, cheese, and meat, this is probably one of the best changes you can make. It will provide relief from chronic constipation, gas, bloating, stomach inflammation, and heartburn. Animal foods are harder to digest. Plant-based foods are basically fiber, water, healthy fats, and plant-based protein. There’s nothing in these foods (unless you choose highly processed versions) that cause your digestion to slow down or take a stand-still.

2. Happier and lighter

Being true to the philosophy that you are what you eat, you will literally feel lighter and happier.  Happier because of the nutrients your body is receiving and a lightness from easier processing of your food intake. A clean stomach directly impacts your mood and your emotions.

3. Better Blood Sugar

A low-fat, vegan diet has shown to support in the healing and managing of diabetes. Plant-based diet slows down blood sugar, yet still allows insulin to do its job within the cells.

4. Cleaner Skin

Your skin looks incredible soon after you switch to a plant-based diet. Nutritious plant foods are rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, antioxidants, water, chlorophyll, and vitamin E, which all do amazing things for your skin. Including fruits such as apples, oranges, berries, and greens such as broccoli and vegetables like carrots, sweet potatoes, avocados, beets, squash, and tomatoes, in smoothies, soups and salads really show on the skin.

5. Energy bursts

Eating a plant-based diet is a great way to enhance your energy since digestion is naturally easier. Just be aware of portion size since eating extremely large meals can also be taxing on your system. Check out some of my recipe suggestions, which are  filled with yummy options to choose from.

6. Less Inflammation

Have joint pain? Eat more plants! Plant-based foods lower inflammation. Plants especially those rich in omega-3 fats like chia and flax, along with leafy greens that contain chlorophyll, relieve inflammation. Eating a plant-based diet increases alkalinity in the body to calm inflammation. A diet high in meat promotes acidity which can lead to everything from arthritis to gout to chronic stomach inflammation.

7. Better Sleep

A plant-based diet is incredibly beneficial for your sleep. Even though you’ll likely to have endless amounts of energy throughout the day, you’ll likely feel calmer and find it easier to sleep. Plus, certain foods like bananas, sweet potatoes, broccoli, cashew butter, peanut butter, and avocados (also kale, almonds, walnuts, spinach, and squash) all contain vitamin B6, trytophan, and magnesium, which ensures a healthy sleep cycle. Kale, Swiss chard, fortified almond or soy milk, and dried figs are also richer in calcium than dairy milk.

Please note: These aren’t health promises or medical advice, but are some of my personal experiences since making the switch and some results that I’ve seen in others as well. Wish you all the best with your health!
